Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Founder of Radical Depths Psychotherapy

Hi, it’s nice to meet you…

For over a decade I’ve been helping adults, teens and couples cultivate a deeper awareness of their patterns of behavior, connect with who they are, and live a fuller and more peaceful life.

As a clinical psychologist with extensive experience using depth-oriented psychotherapy, I show up with a strong, caring, open-hearted presence in our sessions. I not only listen deeply to what you say, but also tune into what you’re feeling. As I get to know you, I share observations and reflections that facilitate a process towards growth and healing.

Underlying my work as a psychotherapist is a deep commitment to interrupting the intergenerational transmission of trauma and oppression. As a depth psychotherapist, I am interested in getting to the root of your problems so we can create long-lasting change. While this does take more time and investment on both our parts, I believe it is an incredibly powerful way to effect sustainable change, rather than aiming for a “quick fix.”

I strongly believe in the healing power of the therapeutic relationship and feel honored to be part of your journey toward healing and vitality. I am bilingual and can work with you in Spanish and English.

my training & experience

I am the founder of Radical Depths Psychotherapy group practice. I received my doctoral degree in clinical psychology from The Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA in 2016. I later completed an advanced two-year training program in depth-oriented psychotherapy at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis in 2022.

My training involved working in various settings with youth and families including a middle school in East Oakland, the community clinic Alameda Family Services, a juvenile hall for adolescent girls, and I received specialized training in perinatal, early childhood and infant-parent mental health at the UCSF Infant-Parent Program at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. Additionally, I had the opportunity to complete a one-year fellowship in the high-risk obstetric psychiatric clinic in the Zuckerberg Hospital where I provided psychotherapy to pregnant people who had high-risk pregnancies either because of medical complications or psychiatric issues.

In addition to my training and experience in working with youth and families, I also have a passion for working with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, and non-binary (LGBTQ+) community. I wrote my dissertation on partnerships involving non-binary gender identity and am both professionally and personally knowledgeable about and connected to the LGBTQ+ community.  I am committed to working with and providing care for queer and trans parents and folks who are creating non-traditional families.

telehealth

Since the Covid pandemic, my practice is now completely virtual and I can provide therapy for individuals located anywhere in California. If you are interested in pursuing psychotherapy and would like a free 20-minute phone consultation to see if we are a good fit, please send me an email at dr.zoe.barnow@gmail.com or you can leave me a voicemail by calling (510) 775-1458.

I look forward to hearing from you!

supervision & consultation services

I have supervised Associates (pre-licensed clinicians) for the past five years, and serve as a volunteer mentor for clinicians learning to do immigration evaluations for asylum seekers. I also offer professional consultation to licensed clinicians who are needing additional support thinking through complex cases. My consultation is psychoanalytically informed, and I have particular expertise on transgender- and queer-identified cases.
